Lumblija
Lumblija is a traditional cake with an unforgettable taste and aroma. The story goes that during Napoleon's occupation of Dalmatia, one of the soldiers fell in love with a girl from Blato. But, as is the case in many stories and legends, he had to leave, but he baked a cake for his sweetheart before leaving and told her “N’oublie pas” which means “don’t forget me”. She, of course, could not utter or repeat his words, so she said lumblija and so it remained. The cake is made from foods specific to Korcula. It contains almonds, lemon and orange juice and zest, raisins, olive oil, varenik, a whole host of spices that were collected all year round, and then the lumblija was baked on All Saints ’Day in memory of loved ones who are no longer there.
